But it's all good. :)--M

I have a lot of positive memories associated with this superb series
and I cannot understand why it has not found a place back on air in
recent years. Is there a legal of commercial block or is it just the
fact that the concept does not fit into a typical format slot?

No broadcaster since Verity has been bold enough to commission such an
abitious musical drama (except perhaps for the works of Dennis Potter),
despite the success of this relatively low-budget series.

Gerald Marriott   15/Nov/2001:22:07:35
Fell in love with the little ladies way back when first shown, especially
Julie Covington,She was and still is beautiful.Great series should be
shown again, for us older and new generations.

The "Little Ladies" were on British TV at a time in my life when many
changes were happening.

I remember very well rushing home in order not to miss one second of
any episode.

I have never before, or after been addicted to a TV show.

I still have "Rock Follies of 77" on vinyl (my ex-wife took the other
one)

I have just ordered the re release of both albums on CD.

I loved the show and wold give anything to get both series on video.

nuff said!!!

Oh, thank you, thank you. Couldn't believe my eyes when I came upon
this site. Have great memories of watching "Rock Follies" when I was
living and working in London during the '70's. It's haunted me ever
since. Have driven Canadian friends (who never saw the series, poor
things) crazy, and nearly worn out the LP's. Wonderful series. Why on
earth hasn't it been released on video or DVD? "Rock Follies" lives.
May all the Gods be praised.

First (and only) seen on PBS in NY -- I loved it, my kids loved, and we
all wore the records out. Have never seen '77 -- how can we get this
in California?

Therese   30/Aug/2001:00:03:17
Rock Follies was one of the first albums I bought - I was about 13 when
the show aired for the first time here in Australia. My friends and I
used to know all of the words to all of the songs by heart. Alas I
didn't have a turntable for a long time when CD players came on the
market and my vinyl albums gathered dust for over 10 years. My husband
recently got hold of a turntable and I put on the Rock Follies again.
I was just amazed at how good the songs are - and found myself singing
along; hadn't forgotten the words. So thought I'd have a browse on the
web to see if anything was here and found this website. Good one! Any
likelihood of the Rock Follies series coming out on DVD?

Susan Siniawsky   08/Aug/2001:01:29:40
Thank you for this site! I have very fond memories of Rock Follies. I
saw it on the Washington, D.C. PBS station more thaan twenty years ago
and was never able to get it out of my head. I am also the only person
I know who actually knew who Rula Lenska was. I can't wait to check out
all the info.

THERE I WAS ON A QUIET EVENING SUFFERING THE DAMN HEAT OF ISTANBUL
WHEN ''ROCK FOLLIES '' SUDDENLY CAME INTO MY HEAD.SURFING THE NET I
FOUND THE SITE AND ALL THOSE TEENAGE MEMORIES CAME FLOODING BACK.
THE SERIES MADE A LASTING IMPRESSION ON ME IN MY FORMATIVE YEARS AND
TO THIS DAY I STILL FIND MYSELF SINGING THE SONGS IN THE SHOWER. I LOST
THE 2 ALBUMS I HAD YEARS AGO, AND LONG TO HEAR THE LITTLE LADIES BRING
A TOUCH OF NOSTALGIA TO MY LIFE, 'ROUND ONE' ALWAYS BROUGHT A LUMP TO
MY THROAT!! I DOUBT I WILL FIND THE CD HERE IN TURKEY, OR WHO KNOWS,
MAYBE THERE COULD BE A WHOLE NEW FAN BASE!!
I WAS IN LOVE WITH RULA LENSKA, ALL THAT EASTERN EUROPEAN CLASS, AH THE
HEADY DAYS OF YOUTH! THANKS FOR 'BRINGING IT ALL BACK'

Hi there
Just to say "thank you" for taking the trouble to set this up.Browsing
through the site brought back so many memories, and quite a few laughs!
No-one can understand why it was never shown again - the ICA ran both
series during a TV retrospective and it sold out immediately, so there
is an audience. Even here in the US, people remember it!

thanks again,

Charlotte

Hi Follies Fans,

needles to say I was in heaven when virgin decided to release the two
excellent albums on CD. My vinyl copies were getting pretty worn out.
Im completely at a loss as to why this highly inovative series has
NEVER been repeated in the UK. I called Thames TV in London (now known
as Pearson TV) the other day to find out the reason why. They said
that a series is usually repeated or released on video due to popular
demand. SO START DEMANDING GUYS

Donna Jennings   20/Mar/2001:00:04:15
I have just visited your site and am so surprised to find that there are other people who love Rock Follies and Julie Covington as much as I do, I will be coming back for more! Has anybody recorded any episodes from Rock Follies that they can sell me - I haven't had my Follies fix since 1977!

David Edge The Warwick Holiday Flats - Blackpool. 19/Mar/2001:18:09:49
I remember the series in the 1970s, but why they can't get around
getting the series on DVD or repeated on Tv I'll never understand.

At least I have the CDs...

Rock Follies made such an impression on me growing up in England. Now
at age 40 I still find myself listening to, and singing, those famed
and fabulous songs. I cant believe it was almost 25 years ago! Wow do
I ever feel old!

I used to love Rock Follies, I got the chance to meet Julie,Rula and
Sue Jones-Davies back in the seventies. I now live in
Adelaide,Australia.

Malcolm Codd Eurovision Jukebox 11/Feb/2001:20:30:28
I still remember the first episode of Rock Follies. I was in
Manchester for an interview. The bath -&- shower room next door to the
pub where I was staying caught fire during the night. There was no-
one but mw in the T.V. room - so I could choose what I wanted on the
T.V. - what is this new series called Rock Follies - I'll give it a
go. It is still one of my all-time T.V. favourites.

I've been having a hell of a time downloading mp3 files from Napster -
but at least I see there are cd's available. Now all we need are the
videos.

This site certainly has it all - now Glen Miller is no longer missing
in my life

Anthony Rollie   28/Dec/2000:20:09:06
Hi ho,

Julie, Rula and Charlotte...your performances in Rock Follies were and
are most appreciated. I have seen the follies only twice...last in the
70's....yet the impression that was stamped on my memories of it was so
strong that it seems much more recent to me.

Julie, your performance as Dee as well as your singing was the most
sincere delivery ever. No praise is going to be high enough to match
the gift you gave to all of us in audience. No one wanted it more or
tried harder than Dee and few were hurt as much.

Julie, I loved you then and find that nothing has since changed.

God spped,

Anthony Rollie

From another Saphic fan

I have been a fan of Rock Follies since 1976,age 14, particularly Julie
Covington!!!! I have just seen an interview with Julie Covington on
Channel Four as part of a programme about the top bands/singers of 1977,
she was no.8. She's still amazing. I also watched Charlotte Cornwell in
a drama, "Care" on BBC1 a few weeks ago.

Tracey   03/Nov/2000:00:35:36
Just received my C.D of Rock Follies, still awaiting delivery of '77.
Can put the vinyls away safely now. All we need now is all the episodes
releasing on video or even transmitted???? then heaven... Ever hopeful
eh!
At sapphic women fans of the series out there...drop us a line

Just to avoid confusion, maybe I should tell you that the DAT recording
was made directly from the TV-broadcast. By CD-quality I mean "as good
as it gets". OK?
Thanks, and bye bye

Hi everyone!

It´s great to see that some people still remember Rock Follies.
I was about 8 years old when I saw the show for the first time, and I
didn´t listen to any other records for about two or three years.

In 1995 the show was re-runned here in Sweden and I managed to get it
on video (except for episode 1 and 2). I´d really like to get a hold of
those two first episodes on video as well. Anyone wanna trade? I have
the unreleased songs (Such as "In my cans" and "Territory") recorded on
DAT-tape. (Same quality as CD)

Anyway I´d like to thank Julie Covington, Charlotte Cornwell, Rula
Lenska, Sue Jones-Davies, Howard Schuman, Andy Mackay, Beth Porter and
all the others for the music and a great TV-show that made my childhood
rock.

Take care / Johan

Comments: My best friend and I watched "Rock Follies" way back when, at the time we were teenagers and had formed a band. Anyway, earlier today, she sent me an e-mail with the subject "Little Ladies" and it all came back to me! So we ended up here looking for the lyrics to that song. I couldn't find a song "Little Ladies" on the website.

My LP and tape versions are now parctically unplayable. Nice to know from the guest book that complete sets of the series DO exist on video. When the National Film theatre showed selected episodes c.1993 the programme notes said that the missing episodes had been wiped and no longer existed in the Thames TV archive. Now all we need is a repeat showing on terrestrial TV in Britain. Come on Channel 4, how about a Rock Follies night??

I only wish I could get hold of a Video tape of the broadcast! Interesting note: I'm a writer by profession and after listening to their song Glen Miller Is Missing, I wrote one of the best articles ever ... on how I waited up all night to hear the radio news of Miller's whereabouts. And I echo the sentiments of the others here who say Julie C. recorded the definitive Evita songs. I love Madonna, but no one could break my heart like Julie singer Don't cry for me Argentina!

Anyway, I would also like to get hold of the two Rock Follies albums. My tapes are now over twenty years old and were never very good. Any suggestions? Also, the first time I saw Julie was on some benefit where she was singing solo on a simple stage next to an upright piano ... does anyone remember what that was?

Comments: I cannot believe I have found this place. I thought I was the only person who remembered and loved Rock Follies. Songs I especially loved were the theme, Glen Miller is Missing, I found my thrill and I'm sure others that I can't remember now. I remember when the big joke was who is Rula Lenske? I knew! This is great, thanks.

Comments: I thought I was the only person who remembered this fantastic programme. Does anyone know how to get hold of of copies of the show? I used to tape them every week onto audio tape but it twenty odd years, they are no longer of any use. I have one clipping from TVTimes with a cast list for one episode + synopsis. I would appreciate any information regarding Julie and if it is possible to obtain copies of 'The beautiful Changes' and 'When Housewives Had The Choice'. Please, ANYONE Email me at: lparker-foord@virgin.Net Please accept my thanks for making me realise that I am not alone in my love for this show. I think UKGold were getting tired of my constant requests for them to show RF esp in its anniversary year but obviously to no avail. I would love to hear from you or anyone interested in talking more about this. Best wishes Laurence

Comments: I loved the first series for it's script, for it's production values, for it's direction, for the skills of the actors, for it's editing, and all it's other elements. It's message was such a positive one re: the human spirit and was skillfully portrayed. With it's avant garde video techniques it raised video production to the highest level of art.

Comments: oh man, i have shivers running down my spine. i just got here via the julie Covington page, and that becasue i have a friend who claims Madonna can't do Evita the way The original Patti Lupone does, and i've said no, our julie did it first. Then to find this page. oh it's wonderful, I loved rock follies. If it gets back on the screen there, try to get the Public tv stations over here to carry it. i really don't think the music is dated at all. it would be wonderful - believe it or not, my sis still has the album, and we've often reminisced about the show. Dee was alwasy my favourite, she was so much like me in ways. it was like a mirror to the soul. Hi Rula and charlotte too, even though I'm a Julie fan I still love you too. rose
